Story 4 Inspo

As we all know since the beginning of time, the feud between Democrats and Republicans has been raging on. Federalists versus Democratic Republicans in the 18th Century. Whigs versus Democrats in the 19th century. Republicans versus Democrats in the 20th and 21st century. Even with the COVID-19 situation and whether polls should be open or closed. If polls are open, should state governments strictly enforce social distancing guidelines or have remaining primaries, or even if it gets so bad, the general election in November be mail in votes only. Or worse get cancelled all together. Listening to reasons from both parties will hopefully bring clarity to this situation that is looming over our heads. Some questions that need to be asked is if votes are to be counted by mail, how can election supervisors be sure that they have all of the voter’s votes in. Can a mail in vote be reliable when such an important election is coming up soon?

Welcome Back

Hello friends! It has been a while since we last talked. Darn COVID-19. Anyways hope you all are well. But if there is one thing that I have learned these past two weeks is that we need to have faith over fear. We cannot let our fears take control of our lives. We need to take back the fear and have faith to face and combat those fears. Thank you for coming to my mini TedTalk.

Now back to our regular scheduled programming.

newsy.com is a news source bringing you short videos, about 1-2 minutes in length, that give you the latest news headlines without the arguments coming from debating news anchors, with hard evidence and statistics, and just giving you the news as is. With a national pandemic happening right now all over the world, it was no surprise that almost every single section the news stories were about the Coronavirus. Ranging in topics like Trump’s most recent response to the virus to how social media is the world’s only stage for entertainment now that all theatre’s, amusement parks, and other recreational places are closed.

A few of the videos I perused were

“FL Gov. Ron DeSantis issues Stay-At-Home Order”

“Prince Charles Has Recovered from COVID-19”

“Wimbledon 2020 amid coronavirus fear”

The short news videos gives you all the essential facts and Information that you need to know and that what I think is great about the website.

Sunday at Centerpoint

For my photo story I want to document how a Sunday works at Centerpoint Church from my specific teams prospective. From Thursday evening band rehearsal to waking up at 5:30 on a Sunday and getting to church by 6:45 and not leaving until all three services are done and the rehearsal for the youth band is done. After rehearsals I would finally head home after being on my feet for eight hours plus and finally take that afternoon nap that I have been looking forward for since I woke up that morning. My days are long and tiring on Sunday. Most people like to wake up late, enjoy brunch with friends and family, and spend the rest of the resting and relaxing from the long work week. Not me. I actually look forward to my Sundays and look forward when I get to serve with my teams. Centerpoint is my home away from home.

Personality Profile

A service journalism story I would like to do is a personality profile on one of Hollywood’s most critically acclaimed actors. With a different background than most actors, he has been able to use his experience to aid him with his roles such as Flip Zimmerman, Charlie Barber, and his most known role of Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. I would do the profile on actor Adam Driver.

Starring opposite of actress Lena Dunham, Driver came to fame in 2012 with his role of Dunham’s character’s boyfriend. Since then his credits include roles in the recent Star Wars Trilogy, BlacKkKlansman, and most recently in Marriage Story. But before Driver was an actor he joined the US Military and was a part of the Marine Corps. But while the movies he has been are great works of cinema, I want to focus on his non-profit organization that he founded with his wife Joanne Tucker in 2006 called Arts in the Armed Forces (AITAF) Professional working actors such as David Schwimmer, Mark Ruffalo, and others will travel to military bases, both domestic and international, to bring the arts to all members of the military and their families free of charge.

There have been many profiles done and Driver and his military background, family background, and his acting background but none on his activism background and his work with AITAF.

All About Story Two

In general, this story is going to be about former HCC Hawk now USF Bull Katie Hahn and her experience with transferring to a public Florida University. As there are many students here at HCC who are waiting by their phones, computers, and mailboxes waiting for those acceptance letters to universities like Florida State, University of North Florida, or University of South Florida like Hahn did. In this profile on Hahn students will be getting the insider dos and don’ts on what you need to do when you get accepted and eventually transfer. During her time at HCC Hahn was entered into the FUSE program which allows students from a post-secondary education establishments that lets students get their associates before going to a four-year university. When researching the FUSE Program on the internet, a student who wishes to transfer, a student must have 2.0 GPA and finish their degree within 3 years of starting at the institution where they will obtain their AA.

A Profile on Katie Hahn

For my second story, I chose to interview a former HCC Hawk now a USF Bull Katie Hahn. I interviewed Hahn to get the details on the transition to a 4-year university from a community college. I also wanted to see what other future transfer students can learn from Hahn’s experience. To prepare for the interview I looked at USF’s transfer requirements and the FUSE program requirements and see where they overlapped and where they differed. A challenge that presented itself was that Hahn and I are close friends from high school and we are still close to this day. It was hard to not get off track and go off tangents on topics that didn’t relate to the interview. But we overcame that challenge by setting time limits for the interview. We had set aside 30 minutes before the interview to catch up and talk about things unrelated to the interview.

Kelly Burgess Questions

For my first story, I decided to go ahead and interview my friend Kelly Burgess on herself and her company Burg and Co. Marketing.

The lead is : Successful Female Entrepreneur Shares her Story

The hook is: Kelly Burgess, CEO of Burg and Co. Marketing tells how she got her start in the marketing world.

And the thesis is: Through a video chat interview conducted on February 3rd Burgess explained that she started her company, Burg and Co. Marketing, only at the age of 25 with only herself on staff. Now, with two office locations, one local here in Tampa and another in Nashville and ten international partners, Burgess’ company has grown like weeds in a flower garden.

The questions I asked her were:

  1. How did you get your start in marketing?
  2. Do you believe that marketing is a male dominate field to work in?
  3. How did you overcome the adversity of being a female in male field?
  4. What prompted you to start your own marketing agency?
  5. Why not join a preexisting company?
  6. You are a new mother, CEO of your own company, how do you balance it all?
  7. What does your company do?
  8. What type of clientele does your company serve?
  9. What advice would you give to students who want to start their own business?
  10. What advice would you give to students who want to go into marketing?

Who Will I Interview?

A person who I would like to interview, is a woman who is a young entrepreneur, works in the marketing industry, started her own successful company, and a new mother: Kelly Burgess. CEO of Burg & Co. Marketing Company. I would like to interview her Mrs. Burgess because she is in a field that is most predominantly male lead industry. Due to becoming a Communications Director, I would have to outsource to a marketing company like Burgess’ company to help the company that I am employed with to get their products out on the internet whether it be social media or other forms of sharing the product. Some of the questions I would like to ask her is

  1. How did you decide to get into communications or more specifically in marketing?
  2. Why did you start your own company?
  3. How do you balance your work life and your home life now that you have a new addition to your family?

MY INTRODUCTION

Hey y’all! My name is Michelle and welcome to my little corner of the internet! This is my last semester here at HCC and I am excited to be attending UNF next fall as Communications major. Currently, I am working part-time at local bakery in the Brandon area called Moreno Bakery and it is a little slice of heaven. I am also on staff at Centerpoint Church as an Intern with their communications department. I run about three social media profiles along with recording and editing videos that get posted, as well as recording and editing the weekly sermon podcast that goes out every Monday. I love the church that I attend and serve on multiple teams such as the children’s ministry, production/worship, and the communications team. In high school I did a lot of technical theatre, which got me interested in going the Production team at Centerpoint Church. The dream would be after obtaining my degree is to be hired by a church to run the Communications Department there with an end goal of transitioning to be a minister at a church within the Children’s Ministry. The moment you interact with a child, you have a GIANT impact on them. If the impact I leave on kids is one that helps in their biblical journey, then one of my goals in life would be complete.

Topics that going to blogged about are stories of my personal growth, lifestyle ideas, and daily updates that are going on in my journey through college and venturing into the adult world.
